For the second time this year, after the paint-bombing in April, members of the United Opposition in city of Skopje attacked the so-called “Triumphal Arch”. This architectural structure, known as “Porta Makedonija (sic!)” is widely seen as a symbol of regime’s manipulation with history, as it contains reliefs of ancient Macedonian, Bulgarian VMRO and Yugoslav communist motifs.
The arch, which was promoted in 2011, is a part of remake of Skopje’s central part in “neo-classical style” aimed in creating links between ancient Macedonia and modern history of Serbo-Bulgarians of FYROM through imagery, sculptures and symbols. The protesters gathered in front of the arch in Monday, c. 19.00 local time and extensively paint-bombed this structure after a rally in the central part of the city. Afterwards, they gathered in nearby park to protest a ‘decade of fascist rule by Nikola Gruveski’s VMRO-DPMNE’. Πρωτοσελιδα – Ειδήσεις
