Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo appears in a new English-language video promoting tourism in Greece.
The video is for the Greek Tourism Ministry, according to a story at GTP Headlines. The promotional vehicle shows highlights of Antetokounmpo playing basketball — but not in an NBA game for the Bucks — and his personal invitation near both the beginning and the end of the one-minute video.
“Hi, I’m Giannis Antetokounmpo,” he says. “Visit my beautiful country — Greece.”
Antetokounmpo is wearing a plain white T-shirt with his Bucks jersey number “34” and standing outdoors in front of a building with Greek-style columns.
The video shows breathtaking views of Greek tourist attractions such as the sea shore, the mountains, historic buildings and culinary offerings. Then it cuts back to more Antetokounmpo basketball highlights and a final endorsement.
“For your vacation, it has to be Greece,” he says.
The video is set to run on social media and will be promoted by Greek embassies abroad, the Greek National Tourism Organization’s offices in other countries, the article said.
Antetokounmpo participated in a press conference Friday with Greek tourism minister Elena Kountoura and unveiled the video. In 2017, Kountoura named Giannis and his brother Thanasis Ambassadors of Greek Tourism.
“Since I met Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family, I was moved by his love for Greece. I asked him to become the ambassador of Greek tourism and he immediately accepted,” Kountoura told reporters.
Antetokounmpo was the star of another Greek tourism-related campaign that launched in October 2017 for Aegean airlines. The “Greece by Greeks” campaign showcased Greece’s attractions, traditions and customs.
