Jihad suspect wants electronic tagging device removed
A man who has been electronically tagged to stop him going to Syria to fight with Islamic State militia is campaigning to have the tag removed.
The man’s lawyer, Derk van der Heijden, told local paper Gooi- en Eemlander the ankle tag is having a serious impact on the man’s life.
‘I am giving the public prosecutor one month to complete his investigation, but by then we must have clarity,’ Van der Heijden told the paper.
The public prosecutor claims Rashid el J was on the verge of leaving for Syria with his wife and baby and that his younger brother has been fighting for IS for 18 months.
El J is one of four adults arrested in Huizen in September but released from custody almost immediately after judges said there was not enough evidence to keep him in jail.
