Open letter from Hellenes that love Hellas
The IMF the EU and ECB known as “ troika” have undertaken to implement a program of structural reforms of the Greek Economy and to introduce fiscal discipline in the central and local governments.
The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention a single fact which if you do not incorporate in your policies the entire program is doomed to fail.
Greece has had a very greedy upper class through out its recent history. The same 10- 12 families have controlled key economic sectors for the past 40 years. You should notice as time passes the same groups appear in every government tender and/or privatizations.
They, between themselves, have carved out the economy and every one of our puppet governments has followed their instructions without a word of protest. Their tenure in governments was closely linked with the ties they had with those groups since they also control the media. To find out who they are ask the politicians around you- they work for them.
They will support the IMF as long as they believe that your presence will feed their hunger for more control of the economy.
Therefore we urge you to establish an antitrust group that really functions and spreads the wealth of the potential growth- that you believe will come- evenly. Otherwise your program will fail. We will have one of the same – an economy strangled by greed, unable to foster innovation and a country that hates its youth – they represent the different and the unpredictable – something that controlled economies hate.
I would also suggest that the blogs become a daily must for your staff. They represent the sentiment of the people and not the newspapers that deliver messages that have ulterior motives and always sing the same tune.
Finally we state that we are opposed to your presence (nothing personal) and if it was our choice you would not be here. However until the moment that you stop running Greece we have the duty to offer guidance to the program that you lead and that only for the benefit of our beloved country.
